On the Road

Big changes. Recently I moved into a 1971 VW Westfalia camper bus. Here it is, while camped near the Mogollan Rim in Arizona.
Isn't it cute?
So. First thing was a roadtrip from Tucson, AZ, where I was living, to Portland, OR to visit the family for the holidays. We did not go a direct route. States visited included Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, then finally here to Oregon. This took almost a whole month. Camped out in the National Forest for almost the whole time. If you've never tried this kind of travel, I highly recommend it, at least if you like beautiful areas with few people to stay in for free. Here's a selection of some of my favorite pictures from the trip so far.
After the holidays I'll be spending most of my time skiing for the next few months, but hopefully still be able to take some amazing pictures.

On my terms again

My time in Afghanistan has come to an end. While I am very happy to be heading home, part of me will miss this beautiful country and conflicted people. I hope some day Afghanistan finds peace and I can return on my own terms to hike through the mountains and photograph and experience everything that it has to offer. I believe if this conflict ever ends the Hindu Kush could become an outdoor tourist destination equal to the European Alps or the North American Rockies. During my time here I have managed to capture some amazing scenery, and feel my photography has improved drastically, but I was never free to go or do as I wished I could. But for now, I am ready to return to the American southwest and explore the landscape on my own terms.
